The Phantom of the Opera: I’m past the Point of No Return

Do you ever go on a movie binge? You know, where you watch the same movie over and over?

I did that this weekend…and it had a lot to do with how damn sexy a man can look furling a cape.  I watched “The Phantom of the Opera” four times in three days!  Once I even bothered to outline the story arc, so I could tell myself it was “research”.

Um, yeah, right.Spanish Phantom

Now, I will admit that I am a Gerard Butler fan.  I decided he was a man to watch as soon as I saw his first scene in “Lara Croft: Cradle of Life”.  It was the scene where he is doing pull-ups in a prison cell.  Yummy…

But back to The Phantom.

If this character isn’t one of the best anti-hero’s ever presented on the big screen, I don’t know who is.  He’s sexy, dangerous, haunted by his past and his own actions, and his love for Christine is tainted by all sorts of hinted perversions.  He is always touching Christine in a way that implies he has much more on his mind than a few chaste kisses. (He made me think of a lot more than kisses!!)

Now I’m not saying Raoul, or Mr. Perfect, wasn’t hero material.  He was portrayed as a believable Alpha lead.  Any other story…I would have been pulling for Raoul to win the girl.  I believed that Christine did love him and I also believed that they went on to have a wonderful life together….a must with any romance story.

It’s just that the Phantom was so much more Sexy!!!!  Oh well, she was young and didn’t know any better 🙂

But then if this was a Romance Novel, instead of a movie…the Phantom would at least get a sequel.  I doubt there is a romance writer alive today who could let a character like the Phantom wither away alone in the sewers of Paris.

 I know I sure couldn’t!
